Material Selections :: The Best Sample Sale Yet

Since Source4Style launched in Beta in October 2010, we’ve amassed quite a collection of materials in our humble Williamsburg home. From hand-pounded Ugandan Bark Cloth (discovered on Source4Style by Christian Siriano and then a highlight of his 2010 runway show) to Khadi Wool (most recently discovered by the lovely Tara St. James), our materials marketplace is ever growing.
The best thing about our growing collection? In addition to the fact that all the materials are sustainable according to the five different lenses through which we look at sustainability, all the materials are available as swatches at Source4Style headquarters and ready to ship direct to your home or office.
Sampling, or swatching as its often referred to in the industry, is an integral yet often grueling first step in designers’ sourcing journeys. Getting 5″ squares of material to make it across the globe and into your hands can be a time-consuming process. Yet our goal at Source4Style is to make that step as easy as possible for our growing community of designers.
Here are three sampling tips to keep in mind as you get samples from Source4Style’s growing materials marketplace.
1. Each sample is $4, including shipping within the US.
The $4 sample cost covers Source4Style’s cost of inventorying the swatches and sending them to your home or office. The cost includes shipping within the US, and international shipping is flat rate $16 – whether you’re in the UK or Australia.
2. Make sure you know where your ultimate order will ship from
All swatches and samples ship from our Williamsburg, NY headquarters. But if you decide to make a production order, that will ship from the location noted on the Google map for that product page. Make sure you note the lead time below the map.
3. Use Your Virtual Swatchbook
Is there a material that piques your interest, but you’re not sure if you want to get your hands on a sample just yet? Add it to your virtual swatchbook by simply clicking the image with color dots at the end of the material name. It’ll prompt you to add the material to a folder, so divide up your materials in ways that will make it easy to find later.
We know how difficult yet how integral sampling can be for designers. Our guarantee to all designers is “If it’s on the site, we can get you a sample.” Stay tuned for our upcoming Material Selections, featuring our weekly swatch and sample picks.
