Source4Style and The IOU Project, an cutting-edge fashion label connecting consumers directly to artisan-producers proudly announce DIY with IOU – a sustainable design competition to find the next designer for The IOU Project “Made in NYC” Capsule Collection.

The winning design will also be featured on an exclusive sale on Fab.com and through a trunk show at ABC Carpet & Home.
The competition is open to designers around the world. Designers of all levels can enter on Source4Style’s site from February 1st through February 24th, 2012. The entry fee is $100 and includes an annual Premium Level Membership – normally priced at $350 - on Source4Style. Designers can sign up by checking out with an annual Premium Level Membership at http://marketplace.
Once a member, designers can submit their portfolio for consideration via Source4Style’s Twitter account – @source4style and @theiouproject and tell us why they should be the next IOU designer.
Designers without twitter accounts can also email their portfolios and response at: diywithiou@source4style.com.
Five finalists will be chosen on February 28th, 2012 by a panel of judges including, Benita Singh and Summer Rayne Oakes (co-founders, Source4Style), Kavita Parmar (Designer, The IOU Project), Vivian Weng (Director of Fashion, Fab.com), Alysia Reiner (Actress), Izabella Miko (Actress, Founder of EkoMiko Foundation), VV Brown (Singer/Songwriter, Co-founder of VVVintage), Erica Domesek (Founder, PS I Made This), Kate Dillon (Model, Co-founder of Komera Project), and Erica Wolf (Save the Garment Center). The finalists will then receive 8 meters of unique and traceable madras cotton from IOU to produce a single garment or accessory for women, men or unisex for Spring/Summer 2013.
The winning product from DIY with IOU, announced on March 29, 2012, will be showcased at a trunk show hosted by ABC Carpet & Home and sold on Fab.com. Profits from the sale of the design will be shared with the winning designer.
As part of an ongoing project to raise awareness about transparency, sustainable sourcing and local production, final designs will be produced in New York City’s garment district through the Save the Garment Center and Made in NYC.

Contest Timeline
February 1-24 – Designers enter the competition as a Premium Level Member via http://marketplace.source4style.com/signup. Use discount code IOU at checkout. (Entry fee is $100 and includes an annual Premium Level Membership - normally priced at $350 - on Source4Style).
February 1-24 – Designers tweet us at @source4style and @theiouproject or email us at diywithiou@source4style.com with a link to your portfolio and why you should be the next IOU designer.
February 24 – First stage of contest ends at 11:59 EST.
February 25-27 – Judges deliberate.
February 28 – Five finalists announced by 11PM EST.
March 5 – Finalist designers receive 8 meters of madras from The IOU Project.
March 26 – Finalist designers send clear photos of product using the madras to info [at] source4style.com with subject header “DIY with IOU.”
March 29 - Winning product from DIY with IOU announced by 11PM EST.
April 2 - Winning designer* sends sample + pattern to Source4Style. *Winning designer must submit both pattern and sample using the madras material.*
April 2-30 - Winning garment goes into production alongside rest of capsule collection compliments of Save the Garment Centre and Made in NYC.
March 29- April 30 - IOU Project offers madras material exclusively on Source4Style’s marketplace for designers to source their own madras for their collections
May (Exact Date TBD) - Trunk show at ABC Carpet
May (Exact Date TBD) - Winning design + IOU capsule collection showcases and sells on Fab.com.
